Dorsey L Van Horn was born and raised in the greater
Kittaning area of Pennsylvania. In 1966 he was drafted
and joined the Navy. The Navy offered a choice of
schools in which to be trained and Dorsey got his
seventh and last choice on his list, Dental Technician.
Little did he
know this would set into motion an entire career path.
While in Virginia, Dr. Van Horn met Mary Ellen who was working
as a dental assistant at the Portsmouth Naval Dental
Station. They were married in 1968. His remaining time
in the Navy was spent at the Naval Dental Station in
Guam from 1969-1970. After being discharged in 1970, he
got a job for the Seventh-day Adventist Church�s General
Conference in the Far Eastern Division. During those
three years (1970 to 1973) he built and established
the first and only Dental Laboratory in Guam. He also
began working on his undergraduate work at the
University of Guam. Then in 1973 he moved to
Collegedale, Tennessee to finish his Bachelor of Science
degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry at Southern
Adventist University, then known as Southern Missionary
College pursuing Dental School at Medical
College of Georgia. After graduating in 1975, he
relocated to Augusta, Georgia and taught at the Medical
College of Georgia � Augusta Area Tech�s co-op program
offering an Associates degree in Dental Laboratory
Technology. From 1975 to 1977 the classes he taught
included Ceramics, Dental Materials, and several other
classes in Crown and Bridge. Next, he studied at the
Medical College Georgia School of Dentistry from 1977 to
1981. While in dental school he had two daughters,
Elizabeth and Michelle. His final destination was
Calhoun, Georgia after
graduating in 1981. In 1982 he decided to open his own
dental practice, Dorsey L Van Horn�s Family Dentistry.
He continues to practice General Dentistry in the same
building with an emphasis on crown and bridges using
Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacture
(CAD/CAM).

Dorsey Van Horn's personal hobbies are an eclectic list
including muscle car restoration, welding, wood-working,
photography, travel, and mountain biking. Family is
absolutely central to Dorsey's life and friends are a
close second. He especially enjoys spending time with
his grandson, William. He finds
particular delight in the trips to Pennsylvania
to visit his three sisters with their families, as well
as his active ninety-five-year-old mother. |
